MSI Z790MPower mATX Motherboard Offers High-End DDR5 Memory Compatibility At A Mainstream $199 US Price Point

The MPower series was last seen in action during the Z170/Z270 era and that's almost 7 years back. Now, MSI is marking the return of the MPower series with a new and cost-effective Z790 product, the Z790MPOWER. This motherboard may look like a very mainstream design but it has something that only a few high-end motherboards can do and that is support for the best DDR5 memory out there.

Starting with the details, the MSI Z790MPOWER motherboard features the LGA 1700/1800 socket & supports 12th, 13th, and 14th Gen CPUs from Intel. It is powered by a 15-Phase VRM design which is provided power through dual 8-pin connectors. There are large heatsinks over the VRMs and the Micro-ATX with a silver and black finish looks great. You can see that each heatsink has some sort of overclocking terminology listed such as "Overclock", "Frequency", "MHz", "Voltages" "Clock", etc.

Right beside the CPU socket are not four but two DIMM slots which can support the latest 64 GB memory modules for up to 128 GB capacities. But why just two slots on a mainstream board? The answer is overclocking. This motherboard is designed to offer great memory & OC support with this design and the company will offer support for a range of high-speed memory modules such as the ones listed in the table below:

Furthermore, MSI will collaborate with several DRAM manufacturers to offer MPOWER-branded DDR5 memory kits. Besides the superb memory support, the MSI Z790MPOWER motherboard also comes with two M.2 slots placed under an M.2 heatsink, four SATA III Ports, a single PCIe 5.0 x16, & two PCIe 4.0 (X1 / X4) slots. Rear I/O includes four USB 2.0, three USB 3.2 Gen1, and a single USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port. There's also WIFI 6E + BT5.2, 2.5GbE Ethernet LAN, and a 7.1 channel audio jack.

Now coming to the pricing, MSI has an MSRP of $199 US for the Z790MPOWER motherboard making it one of the most affordable memory-overclocking boards on the market. The price is $229 US with taxes in certain regions but it is an impressive pricing for a motherboard with such high-end capabilities. Early availability is planned for Asian markets at 1599 RMB but we expect it to hit global retail channels very soon too.
