Two more Intel 5th Gen Xeon "Emerald Rapids" CPUs, the Platinum 8558P & the 8551C, have been leaked in the Geekbench database.

Intel Xeon Platinum 8558P & 8551C "Emerald Rapids" CPUs Leak Out In Geekbench Benchmark

There have been a total of three 5th Gen Xeon Platinum SKUs that have leaked so far and these include the 8592+, 8580, & the 8558U. Now, we have two more variants which are extensions of 8558 but aiming different workloads. These are the Xeon Platinum 8558P and the 8551C. Just like the previous Emerald Rapids CPUs, these two are also compatible with the Eagle Stream platform running the LGA 4677 socket.

Coming to the specifications, both CPUs feature the same core configuration of 48 cores based on the Raptor Cove P-Cores, 96 threads, however, what seems to be missing is the huge pool of cache that the Non-P/C model packs. Both 8558P & 8551C are listed with 16 MB of L3 cache but a massive 192 MB of L2 cache whereas the 8558U was equipped with 260 MB of L3 cache & 96 MB of L2 cache. We can't say for sure if this is an erroneous listing or if these chips indeed come with a vastly different cache configuration but it should still be much higher than the Sapphire Rapids SKUs.

  • Xeon Platinum 8558U - 48 Cores / 96 Threads / 260 MB L3 / 96 MB L2 = 356 MB
  • Xeon Platinum 8551C - 48 Cores / 96 Threads / 16 MB L3 / 192 MB L2 = 208 MB
  • Xeon Platinum 8468 - 48 Cores / 96 Threads / 105 MB L3 / 96 MB L2 = 201 MB

In terms of clock speeds, the Intel Xeon Platinum 8558P CPU operated at a base clock of 2.70 GHz and a boost clock of 3.20 GHz while the 8551C operates at a slightly higher base frequency of 2.90 GHz but the same boost clock of 3.20 GHz.

Performance-wise, the Intel Emerald Rapids CPUs scored decent but the EPYC Genoa 48-Core chip managed to outclass them in both single and multi-core tests. The Xeon Platinum 8558P & 8551C offer an improvement over their 4th Gen Sapphire Rapids predecessors but Genoa should hold the lead in terms of performance and efficiency. The Intel Emerald Rapids CPUs will debut on the 14th of December alongside Intel's Meteor Lake "Core Ultra" family so stay tuned as we get closer to the launch.
