How to Get Verified on Facebook and Instagram

If you’re planning to launch a business or your influencer career on social media, one of the things that you need to focus on is getting verified. The blue checkmark on your Facebook and Instagram profile can do wonders. However, getting a verified badge is not that easy. There are a lot of factors and conditions you need to know that play an important role in getting your account verified.

Read the guide below to know how you can get a blue check on Facebook and Instagram.

Who’s Eligible for Facebook and Instagram’s Verified Blue Tick?

Meta has set a few restrictions on who can get verified to keep both Instagram and Facebook safe from fake accounts and spammers. It has categorized eligibility into four: Authentic, Unique, Complete, and Notable.

First off, Authentic refers to accounts that represent an actual person, business, or entity. During the verification process, Meta will ask for documents to help prove the account’s authenticity. This option is primarily available for politicians, celebrities, and influencers.

Unique means an account should represent a unique person or business. Meta clarifies that only one verified account should exist per person or business. The only exceptions are language-specific and general interest accounts such as meme pages. If you have multiple accounts, you should permanently delete your other Facebook account.

Meta also requires accounts to be Complete. This means the account must be public and have a bio and a profile photo. Additionally, the account needs to be active at the time of application.

Lastly, accounts must be Notable, i.e., those requesting verification must be a well-known person, brand, or entity.

Benefits of Getting Verified on Facebook and Instagram

Facebook and Instagram’s blue checks aren’t aesthetic additions to your profiles. They’re also beneficial in many ways.

1. Better Credibility

One of the essential benefits of having a blue check on your Facebook or Instagram page is the added credibility. This is especially important if you’re running a business page. Tons of businesses and personalities open their profiles on both platforms each day. For people, it’s easier to trust names with a blue check, as it means Meta officially recognizes them as authentic.

It goes without saying that better credibility will also benefit your accounts. If it’s a business page, people are more likely to transact with you, seeing that you’re a legitimate entity.

2. Avoid Getting Mixed Up With Poser Accounts

It’s straightforward for others to create a Facebook or Instagram to impersonate yours. This can be problematic as the fake account can be used for scams or ruin your reputation. The verification process to get a blue check is intensive and can block people trying to impersonate your account.

Once you have a blue check on your Facebook or Instagram account, it will be easier for people to see which account is real and which is fake.

3. Better Visibility

People can still make an account under the same name as yours on both platforms. If you have a blue check, however, your account will be more visible on the local search bars of Facebook and Instagram. Your account is also more likely to appear in Google or other search engines. This improved visibility can help increase your page or profile’s followers and likes.

Facebook uses the same form across mobile and web devices so that you can access it anywhere. The verification process can vary between 48 hours to 45 days. Once approved, you’ll automatically have the blue check on your profile.

If your request is denied, you can appeal the verification process. Facebook usually asks you to submit another document for verification purposes. You can expect a response from them within 48 hours.

Note: Ensure all the details you provide are updated and authentic. Meta reserves the right to remove your blue check immediately if you receive a verified badge using false information. They can also take steps to disable your account.

Note: Once verified, you can no longer change the name on your account. As such, you should change the name on your Instagram to what you want it to be before requesting verification.
