NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090D is on track to launch next year

The RTX 4090 Dragon for China reportedly features a cut-down AD102 GPU.

NVIDIA is reportedly in the final stages of finalizing the alleged RTX 4090D, as indicated by renowned leaker MEGAsizeGPU, known for their accurate NVIDIA leaks. The card is expected to be launched next year and is said to feature cut-down AD102 specifications to comply with U.S. export criteria.

The GeForce RTX 4090D (with “D” denoting Dragon), is currently in development for the Chinese market. Due to U.S. export restrictions on high-performance accelerators based on GPUs, China was excluded from the supply of AD102-300 GPUs. The export ban on the RTX 4090 came into effect in mid-November after being listed as a prohibited export in October. Chinese board partners still possess some stock of AD102 GPUs, but that is running dry.

In response to these restrictions, NVIDIA is crafting a new SKU with similar but not identical specifications. The AD102 GPU is anticipated to have a reduced number of CUDA cores, although the exact count remains unconfirmed. Regarding clock speeds, reports suggest a 2280 MHz base clock and a 2520 MHz boost clock for the GPU.

The card is likely to maintain its 24GB GDDR6X memory configuration, but specific details such as memory clock speeds and TDP are yet to be finalized. It’s evident that NVIDIA intends to stay close to the original specifications to ensure continuity in the production lines for the RTX 4090.

According to earlier reports, the RTX 4090D is slated for a January launch. NVIDIA has a dedicated event scheduled for the RTX 40 SUPER launch at CES. However, it remains uncertain whether the RTX 4090D will be officially presented during the event or quietly released exclusively for the Chinese market.
