ZOTAC backpack lets you take your graphics card with you
ZOTAC unveiled the “VR Go 4.0” product last year, which marked a new iteration in their unique series characterized by a compact computer concealed within a small backpack. The ZOTAC VR GO series is not primarily targeting the gaming community; instead, it’s crafted for the realms of virtual reality, metaverse, and omniverse experiences.
This backpack liberates users, granting them unrestricted mobility as they attach their VR devices directly to the hardware they carry. This wearable PC accommodates a wide range of headsets, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). However, it’s important to note that ZOTAC does not manufacture their headsets, so compatibility may require verification.

In its debut year of 2022, the system featured relatively older components, sporting an Intel Core i7-11800H Tiger Lake CPU and NVIDIA RTX A4500 graphics with 16GB of memory. Fast forward a year, ZOTAC is now introducing an updated version with somewhat inferior specifications. The primary distinction between the 2022 and 2023 models lies in a graphics downgrade, shifting from the RTX A4500 to the RTX A2000 GPU. However it still ships with the same Intel CPU.

While ZOTAC hasn’t explicitly specified the precise RTX A2000 GPU variant in use, a subtle clue suggests it features 8GB GDDR6 128-bit memory. Such a configuration aligns with the Ampere GA106 based mobile variant, which translates to 2560 CUDA cores and twice the memory capacity compared to the 4GB variant of the A2000.
Despite being categorized as a “Mini-PC,” it’s essential to note that the system is considerably larger than most small form factor PCs offered by ZOTAC. It weighs in at 4.5 kilograms and is compatible with two 6000 mAh batteries. ZOTAC ships the system with a dual-charging station, and these battery packs are swappable on the go.

For VR support, the ZOTAC VR Go 4.0 boasts one HDMI 2.1 port and 2x DisplayPort 1.4 connectors. Users also have access to a range of USB ports, including Type-C (3.1) and multiple Type-A ports (4x 3.1 and 2x 3.0). While the system features onboard Wi-Fi support, it’s important to note that it lacks a 4G network module, which should be considered when venturing into the real world with VR backpack and googles on.
As of the current listing in the UK, the system is priced at 3,700 GBP.
