Minisforum V3 comes Radeon 780M graphics

The company has confirmed their first 3-in-1 device will feature a high-end AMD Ryzen processor with 8 cores and full iGPU configuration.

Minisforum has been teasing its V3 tablet for several weeks now. Initially, the device was announced to feature the “Hawk Point” AMD APU, but the company retracted this information as AMD had not yet unveiled the Ryzen 8040 series at the time. However, AMD has since introduced the Ryzen 8040 series in early December, emphasizing its AI performance. A feature now advertised for the V3 tablet.

The V3 stands out as a versatile system that serves as a tablet, laptop (when the keyboard is attached), and external monitor. Notably, it includes a VLink DisplayPort-In connection, enabling various external devices such as tablets, smartphones, or digital cameras to be connected directly into the tablet. This feature makes it particularly appealing to photographers who require a powerful yet lightweight laptop for editing with an external screen for taking pictures.

Speaking of weight, the V3 tablet is officially listed at 946g, which may seem high. However, it’s import to note it’s a 14-inch 2560×1600 display with a 165Hz refresh rate, 500 nits brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. Moreover, the touchscreen supports stylus input through the MPP2.6 protocol, featuring 4096 pressure levels.

Moving on to the processing and memory specifications, the V3 tablet officially boasts a Ryzen 7 processor with AI support. The 28W Hawk Point APU has a confirmed base clock of 3.3 GHz and a boost clock of 5.1 GHz, along with 12 RDNA3 compute units named Radeon 780M. Such description fits only two AMD APUs: Ryzen 7 8840HS and Ryzen 7 8840U.

We reached out to Minisforum for clarification, and they informed us that AMD requested the APU not to be named, but we did learn it is a U-class processor, so most likely 8840U or 7740U if there is a change in plans. We will provide an update once we learn more.

The tablet offers three TDP modes, allowing users to optimize performance for various scenarios: a 15W mode for extended battery life, 18-22W for daily office tasks and light gaming, and a 28W mode for rendering and high-end gaming. These modes are managed through the VSPACE software, specifically designed for this tablet.

In terms of memory, the V3 supports up to 32GB LPDDR5-6400. Although it remains unclear whether the memory is soldered or replaceable, the tablet’s slim form factor and thickness of just 9.8mm suggest the latter. Additionally, the V3 features two USB4 ports with a bandwidth of up to 40 Gbps, supporting connections to 8K displays and external GPUs.

The V3 is set to compete with products like:

  • ASUS ROG Flow Z13 (up to Core i9-12900H)
  • OneNetbook T1 (up to Core i7-1260P)
  • Microsoft Surface (up to Core i7-1255U)
  • OneXPlayer X1 (16-core Core Ultra 7 100H SKU)

The V3 will officially go on sale this quarter, but Minisforum is not providing any dates or pricing information yet.
