NVIDIA RTX 4080 with 20 GB
An update to RTX 40 SUPER rumors.
A third source has entered the conversation surrounding the upcoming GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series. In addition to the news from two well-regarded hardware leakers, Benchlife asserts that they have acquired fresh information from their sources at board partners. However, critical details such as the complete specifications and release date remain unverified.
NVIDIA often imparts preliminary information to board partners and operates without assigning a definitive name to these updates. Consequently, when Add-In Board (AIB) manufacturers notice a new model employing the same board design as the RTX 4080 but with a distinct memory configuration, it strongly suggests the possibility of a SUPER or Ti update.
Benchlife has learned that the purported RTX 4080 update might incorporate 20GB of memory. They haven’t explicitly labeled it as a SUPER variant, so theoretically, it could simply be another RTX 4080. Nonetheless, considering that NVIDIA had already canceled a 4080 12GB version, this appears highly improbable.
- RTX 4080 → Super
- GPU: AD103 → AD102
- Memory: 16GB → 20GB
- Bus: 256-bit → 320-bit
- RTX 4070 → Super:
- GPU: AD104 → AD103
- Memory: 12GB → 16GB (?)
- Bus: 192-bit → 256-bit (?)
The use of a 20GB memory configuration requires a broader 320-bit memory bus, which could potentially account for the earlier rumors indicating that the RTX 4080 would adopt the AD102 GPU, as the AD103 lacks the necessary memory bus. Additionally, this implies that the RTX 4070 SUPER may also experience an increase in memory capacity to 16GB, particularly as it’s now rumored to employ the AD103 GPU.
Worth noting that by adding RTX 4080 SUPER 20GB, NVIDIA will offer a similar memory configuration to AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT. In fact, both companies will have very similar high-end lineups in terms of memory compromising 24GB, 20GB and 16GB memory variants.
It’s important to note that, at this stage, everything remains within the realm of unverified rumors. Neither NVIDIA nor any other reputable source has officially confirmed the plans for the RTX 40 SUPER series. However, as we approach the release date, we anticipate that more details will gradually surface.
Update: NVIDIA hardware leaker kopite7kimi claims that the speculated specifications differ slightly. These alleged SUPER variants appear to offer only a modest enhancement. The RTX 4080 SUPER is expected to follow a pattern similar to the RTX 2080 SUPER’s relationship with the 2080, signifying a minor upgrade that includes full GPU specifications and an increase in memory speed. Meanwhile, the RTX 4070 SUPER is reported to be a slightly reduced version of the RTX 4070 Ti.
