NVIDIA GTX 16 series to be discontinued
Board Channels claim that NVIDIA is planning to discontinue its last GeForce GTX series in the first quarter of next year.
NVIDIA is set to discontinue the production of new GeForce GTX 16 graphics cards, beginning in the first quarter. Sources from Board Channels have revealed that board partners recently received notification about this decision. The information suggests that the final orders for the GTX 16 series will be completed this month, and no further orders will be accepted in the first quarter of 2024. This marks the conclusion of the GTX 16 series, signaling NVIDIA’s focus on the RTX series instead.
According to reports, starting from the first quarter (Q1), NVIDIA will completely cease the full-scale production of the GTX16 series GPUs. This means that from Q1 onward, NV GTX16 series GPUs may no longer be supplied to AIC brand manufacturers.
If NV indeed discontinues the entire production line of the GTX16 series, it will not only involve the already discontinued GTX1660S but also include the two lower-end logistics models, GTX1650 and GTX1630. At that point, there won’t be any product models to temporarily fill the gap in this price range.

From a technical point of view, NVIDIA will be discontinuing two GTX 16 cards: the GTX 1650 and GTX 1630. The rest of the cards in the series have already been discontinued, or there have been reports that they have been discontinued. This means that the GTX 16 will cease to exist, and the remaining stock should quickly be depleted.
Worth noting that GTX 16 series were based on Turing architecture alongside RTX 20 series. NVIDIA came up with the idea to separate their product lineup into a more premium RTX line with hardware accelerated ray tracing and DLSS support. While GTX 16 series were catered towards the budget segment and gamers who did not want to use such technologies at that point.
Effectively, this means that NVIDIA’s lowest SKU in the RTX series will be RTX 3050, currently retailing at $230. However, there is hardly any choice below $200 mark in the GeForce RTX lineup at this moment. The GTX 1630, which will also be discontinued, was first announced in June last year, meaning that card had a lifespan of 1.5 years.
