NVIDIA pulls the plug on GeForce GTX 16 series
The GTX 16 series is no longer distributed to partners.
Once the remaining stock of GTX 16 depletes, there will be no more cards based on this Turing architecture shipping to partners, distributors, retailers and in the end to gamers. Chinese sources report that the most recent product roadmap confirms that the product has been discontinued and will no longer be restocked.
The news follows the rumors from December last year that in the first quarter of 2024, NVIDIA is planning to fully discontinue its popular mid-range series that lacked ray tracing and DLSS acceleration support. Those cards were also the last models as part of the GTX series, as NVIDIA has now shifted to RTX branding entirely.
According to the NVIDIA GPU product roadmap, the GTX 16 series has been completely discontinued in the first quarter of 2024. Currently, all remaining GPU stock has been allocated to AIC brand manufacturers until their inventories are depleted.
In other words, NVIDIA has officially ceased production of the GTX 16 series GPUs, declaring the historical mission of discontinuing the GTX 1660S, 1660, 1650, and 1630 graphics cards. Going forward, neither NVIDIA nor the core AIC brand manufacturers will supply GTX 16 GPUs to channel partners. It is estimated that the remaining inventory of GTX 16 series in the market will be consumed within the next 1-3 months.”

The last remaining models that were still on the market are the GTX 1650 and GTX 1630. Those cards are now following the previous releases, including the GTX 16 SUPER models that are no longer shipped by NVIDIA.
As we mentioned earlier, this means that the lowest tier in the NVIDIA lineup will now shift to RTX 20 series. Technically, this makes mobile RTX 2050 and desktop RTX 3050 the new entry-level models.
NVIDIA still provides support for the GTX 16 series through new drivers. In fact, the company is still supporting its GTX 700 series, so it is very unlikely that GTX 16 driver support will be dropped anytime soon. However, gamers may find it increasingly harder to find these cards on shelves.
