MSI to enable 256GB memory capacity support on X670 motherboards

MSI confirms their motherboards now support up to 256GB memory by using Kingston’s new 64GB modules.

In early 2023 AMD and Intel have been working on enabling non-binary DDR5 memory support, introducing 24GB and 48GB memory capacity per module. This increased memory support for DDR5 platforms from 128GB up to 192GB with all DIMM slots occupied. Today, MSI is announcing it is ready to support 256GB capacity.

This achievement was possible thanks to Kingston, who developed their Fury Renegade DDR5 memory, which features 64GB memory capacity per module. For motherboards equipped with four DIMM slots, this means 256GB total capacity, while dual-DIMM motherboards will now support 128GB.

This accomplishment underscores the strong collaboration between MSI and leading memory brands to achieve enhanced performance and remarkable milestones. The partnered memory for this achievement is Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 memory, offering an impressive 64GB capacity per module. Built on Micron’s industry-leading 1β (1-beta) technology, enables new capacities not seen before for dual channel PCs.

MSI is not confirming which motherboards will support this new capacity; however, it is stated that compatible platforms will receive a BIOS update from MSI. As an example, MSI is showing its AMD Ryzen 9 7900X & MSI PRO X670-P WIFI platform supporting 256GB capacity. The screenshot is quite blurry though, so it is hard to see the details, but the Windows task manager clearly shows 256GB capacity.
