G4 Edge packs AMD 7940HS and RTX 4060
Gaming PC in a small form factor.
ETA PRIME is the go-to channel for the latest releases of Mini-PCs, gaming handhelds and Small Form Factor or Single Board Computers. This time around he is testing a new G4 Edge system which is an improved version of the last year Alder Lake system featuring up to Core i9-12900H and RTX 3050 Ti graphics.
The G4 Edge combines Ryzen 9 7940HS AMD Phoenix APU and GeForce RTX 4060 mobile graphics. Instead of relying on integrated graphics, gamers get access to an NVIDIA mid-range 60 class model that comes with 8 GB of VRAM. Being based on Ada Lovelace architecture, it will enable the latest technologies support, including DLSS 3.5.
AMD 7940HS is the flagship Phoenix APU featuring 8 Zen4 cores, a boost clock up to 5.2 GHz and integrated Radeon 780M graphics with 12 RDNA3 Compute Units. The same configuration will be used by the just announced Ryzen 8040 series, bar the slower XDNA AI processor.
The G4 Edge Mini expands on the idea of a small PC featuring dedicated graphics, catering to a niche market segment dominated by Chinese manufacturers and Intel’s now discontinued NUC series. Intel’s NUC 12 Enthusiast, designed with an Intel Core i7-12700H and Arc A770M graphics supporting up to 16GB VRAM, competes in this niche. The RTX 4060 Laptop GPU should offer superior performance, particularly considering its configurable TGP that can reach up to 140W.
As a gaming PC, this chassis is larger than the standard Mini-PC small form factor designs commonly seen in multimedia and business settings. This increased size, however, provided the company with the opportunity to incorporate more efficient cooling solutions and accommodate up to 64GB of DDR5 memory. Additionally, the Mini-PC features two M.2 NVMe slots and room for a 2.5″ storage drive.
In terms of gaming performance, the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU provides enough horsepower to handle most games at a 1080p resolution, while achieving 1440p may require some DLSS action. Given that this Mini-PC is equipped with a full TGP variant of the RTX 4060 graphics, gamers can anticipate superior performance compared to many gaming laptops featuring these graphics, which often face limitations in power or cooling efficiency.
Unfortunately, no price was mentioned in the video, nor we could find any G4 Edge on sale. Such systems are typically less expensive than similarly spec’ed laptops, though.
