The smallest RTX 4070 Ti of them all

This card powered by a full AD104 GPU is only 17.3 cm long, and it fits into a dual-slot config. That’s a really cool little desktop GPU that you can’t actually buy. Almost none of the 140+ custom RTX 4070Ti models on the market have two fans, well, except for cards like the Sycom semi-custom design which is nearly 3.5 slots thick.

The RTX 4070 Ti cooler developed ty TechTaxi is not meant to break world records in performance, on a contrary, the single-fan design will require undervolting and potential users will have to account for higher temperatures. There was no thermal testing with the cooler in question yet, so how much power needs to be sacrificed is yet to be determined.

One should remember that RTX 4070 Ti is a 285W TDP GPU (a bit less on average during gaming). The same power requirements are official for the upcoming RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, which modder believes should also be supported by this custom cooler. It is no secret that board partners often use the same coolers and board designs for cards that share the same GPU, so the donor card from Gainward should also be compatible with the new Ti, given that AD104 and AD103 are pin-compatible.

Recently, I made progress on clearance issues to get it down to 2 slots which was a great milestone for the prototype. […] As for the prototype itself, its ~173 mm long and ~41.5 mm thick so it should fit in the Velka 3 [Editor note’s: it’s Velkase ITX chassis]. The prototype ITX cooler should be compatible with the 4070/4070 Ti and hopefully the upcoming 4070 Super/4070 Ti Super as well. I haven’t been able to do thermal testing, but it can be assumed that an undervolt would be need for the 4070 Ti/Ti Super. If the project works out, then I’ll do a set of thermal tests like the previous benchmarks of my other mods.

Of course, such mods are not for everyone, given that RTX 4070 Ti (SUPER) are relatively expensive $799 cards, so any modification to coolers will mean voiding of the warranty (but this may depend on a region where the card was sold). Also, running the GPU out of specs will require a lot of testing, so not something everyone has time for.

But the truth is that without like TechTaxi such cards would never be available. NVIDIA’s smallest ITX designs are using RTX 4060 Ti series which require a lot less power. Here the power requirements may be similar, but users are getting more cores, which should be important for gaming or rendering, whatever the small form factor is needed.
