AMD preparing Phoenix3 and Phoenix4 APUs
It looks like the Phoenix family is growing.
According to the new entries to the public PCI Device ID repository, AMD may be preparing additional variants of the Phoenix series. The Phoenix APUs are already available on two separate dies, one called Phoenix1 and the other called Phoenix2, which is also called Small Phoenix. There are some significant differences between the two processors, as the latter offers fewer cores and a heavily reduced RDNA graphics subsystem.
AMD Phoenix(1) features 8 Zen4 cores and up to 12 RDNA3 Compute Units, whereas Phoenix2 has 2 Zen4 cores and 4 Zen4c cores combined with up to 4 RDNA3 CUs. Those chips are listed under ID of 15BF and 15C8, but one should note that this ID refers to the graphics subsystem.

The database now lists Phoenix3 as “1900” and Phoenix4 as “1901”, which are very distant IDs from the original “15BF” and “15C8”. Therefore, a question must be asked if Phoenix3/4 are based on RDNA3 or something entirely different like RDNA3.5. As we know, AMD now tends to mix architectures, combining Zen and RDNA architecture is not exactly an issue for AMD these days.

The current driver for the Phoenix series lists over 483 variants of PHX1 and 19 variants of PHX2, those are typically different implementations for OEMs. The vast majority of them will have the same specs, but to ensure full compatibility AMD driver detects each variant under a different Sub Device ID. Those are Radeon 780M, 760M, and 740M integrated graphics. Notably, the same driver has no references to Phoenix3/4 yet, therefore the source of this leak is still unknown.
If we were to guess, those might could be refreshes, possibly intended for the next-generation mobile lineup aka Ryzen 8000. Worth adding that AMD is now preparing its “Hawk Point” series which is derived from existing Phoenix chips. Perhaps that’s where Phoenix 3/4 is heading?
Update: An entry for AMD GPUOpen-Tools confirms that Phoenix3 & 4 are based on RDNA3 architecture and will power the Radeon 780M and 740M graphics. This affirms that both codenames may be associated with Hawk Point.
